IS THERE LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS?

In my opinion yes. We can't be the only life forms in the solar system. These are four reasons why I think there is intelligent life on other planets...

EVOLUTIONARY THEORY

People often use the Fermi paradox to explain why we'll never find intelligent life in the universe. On the other side is evolutionary theory, which suggests that life adapts to its environments. Though Darwin and his contemporaries were hardly thinking of life on exoplanets when they came up with evolutionary theory, it does suggest that where life can take hold, it will. And if you consider that our environment isn't just planets, but also solar systems and interstellar space, an unorthodox interpretation of evolutionary theory suggests that life will adapt to outer space too. We may one day be meeting creatures who've evolved in ways we never dreamed possible — or we may become those creatures ourselves.

MYSTERIES SURROUNDING HOW LIFE CAME TO EARTH

Though we have theories about how life originated on Earth, involving those complex carbon molecules, there is ultimately a mystery about how those chemicals came together to form fragile membranes that eventually became cells. This mystery has been deepened the more we know about how incredibly hostile the environment on Earth was when life evolved — the atmosphere was packed with methane, and the planet's surface boiled with lava. One common theory is that simple, single-celled life actually evolved elsewhere — perhaps Mars — and came to Earth inside meteorites. This theory is called panspermia, and suggests that life on Earth arose due to life on other planets.

SHEER DIVERSITY AND TENACITY OF LIFE ON EARTH

Not only did life evolve on Earth under extremely difficult conditions, but it somehow managed to survive mega volcanoes, meteorite strikes, ice ages, droughts, ocean acidification, and radical atmospheric changes. We've also seen incredible diversity of life on our planet in a relatively short period of time, geologically speaking. Life is pretty tenacious. Why couldn't it take hold on one of Saturn's moons, or in another star system?

RAPIDLY EXPANDING NUMBER OF EARTH-LIKE PLANETS

Over the past decade, planet hunters have found hundreds of exoplanets, many of them gas giants like Jupiter. But new techniques for planetary detection have allowed them to detect smaller, rocky worlds like Earth. Some are even in the "Goldilocks zone" around their stars, meaning they orbit at a distance that could produce temperatures similar to those on Earth. Given how common exoplanets beyond our solar system have turned out to be, it seems likely that one of them plays host to some form of life.\

That is why I think there is life on other planets.

IS SOCIAL MEDIA GOOD OR BAD(twitter, Facebook  Reddit)

Well, there are always two sides of everything; it depends on your perspective on how you perceive it. The same goes for social media, most people admire it as a revolutionary invention and some seem to take it as a negative impact on the society.

POSITIVE EFFECTS:

Friends and relations...

Social networks started as a place to connect with your friends in an easy an convenient way. Truly speaking, many people might have found their old friends from school or collage who were out of touch due to one reason or other, well I would say I have and I thank social networks for this. Social networks has provided us the opportunity to connect with people and build better relationships with friends with whom we are unable to meet personally, and let them know about our life and take input about their lives and events happening with them.

Opportunities for business...

Social networks have become a crucial part of many of us. We don’t even notice this but as soon as we open our desktops or laptops to access the web, we sub-consciously open our favourite social network just to see about the updates received. Businesses have noticed the value of social networks in our life, and they are using different techniques to promote their products. There are a number of customized applications being made on the social platforms, whose main purpose is to promote the product or brand. As social marketing is cost effective and brands have a huge audience, they are shifting more towards social marketing.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS:

Affecting Productivity...

Mostly businesses use social media to find and communicate with clients. But it is a great distraction to employees, who may show more interest in what their friends are posting than in their work tasks. Wired.com posted two studies which demonstrated damage to productivity caused by social networking. Nucleus Research reported that Facebook shaves 1.5% off office productivity while Morse claimed that British companies lost 2.2 billion a year to the social phenomenon.

Leads to isolation...

Extreme usage of social media has reduced the level of human interaction. Because of social networks the interaction with other people has become effortless and people have isolated their lives behind their online identities. Face to face communication and meetings has been reduced and many of us have lost our social skills.

Conclusion

There are many more reasons for both negative and positive effects or social media websites. I have mentioned a few of both but this doesn't answer the question, are social media sites good or bad? I believe it stands somewhere in between.

Harrison Bergeron: Book or Movie?

It is the year 2081, every American is finally equal. One April, fourteen-year-old Harrison Bergeron is taken away from his parents, George and Hazel, by the government. George and hazel are not fully aware of this tragedy due to Hazel's lack of intelligence and George's ear piece. On TV, George and Hazel are watching ballerinas dance not so gracefully due to the weights they wear to make sure the viewers don't feel bad about themselves.  On TV, an announcer with a speech impediment attempts to read a bulletin. He can’t overcome his impediment, so he hands the bulletin to a ballerina to read. Hazel commends him for working with his God-given abilities and says he should get a raise simply for trying so hard. The ballerina begins reading in her natural, beautiful voice, then apologizes and switches to a growly voice that won’t make anyone jealous. The bulletin says that Harrison has escaped from prison.A photo of Harrison appears on the screen. He is wearing the handicaps meant to counteract his strength, intelligence, and good looks. The photo shows that he is seven feet tall and covered in 300 pounds of metal. He is wearing huge earphones, rather than a small radio, and big glasses meant to blind him and give him headaches. He is also wearing a red rubber nose and black caps over his teeth. His eyebrows are shaved off. After a rumbling noise, the photo on the Bergerons’ TV screen is replaced with an image of Harrison himself, who has stormed the studio. He says that he is the emperor, the greatest ruler in history, and that everyone must obey him. Then he rips off all of his handicaps. He looks like a god. He says that the first woman brave enough to stand up will be his empress. A ballerina rises to her feet. Harrison removes her handicaps and mask, revealing a beautiful woman. Diana Moon Glampers comes into the studio and kills Harrison and the empress with a shotgun. Training the gun on the musicians, she orders them to put their handicaps on. The Bergerons’ screen goes dark. George, who has left the room to get a beer, returns and asks Hazel why she has been crying. She says something sad happened on TV, but she can’t remember exactly what.

Some similarities and differences are... The story is more politically focused, in one seen of the movie the TV breaks and George has to fix it, which didn't happen in the story. Also, in the film they never talk about the dark ages or the fine and jail penalty for making your weights lighter. Another thing that happens in the film and not in the story is that it doesn't state that Harrison is 14, Harrison also threats the studio with a bomb. The last difference is that Harrison doesn't have his eyebrows shave off, he doesn't have a mask or a red nose, and he isn't 7 feet tall. Some things that are similar are... It is still 2081, News announcers still have speech problems, Harrison gets shot and the H-G doesn't wear handicaps.

I preferred the film because to me it made more sense. Even though it changed some things. Like how instead of George going into the kitchen, Hazel does. That makes more sense to me because he has the ear piece, for hazel to forget she would have to be incredibly stupid.

My favourite moment from the film is when George is crying. I like it because his son just died, but he forgets 20 seconds later. I feel like this also was the saddest part in the whole story. Watching an old man cry.

If I Could Live Anywhere

If I could live anywhere I would live just outside the Troposphere. I would live in a floating futuristic house and I would have my car be a little space shuttle so I could fly down to earth.
One of the reasons I would want to live in space is because of the view. Not only could I see earth, but I could also see the stars, the sun, and with the best telescope ever, I could also see other planets.
The second reason I would want to live in space is because I would be completely isolated and alone, with no one telling me what to do.
The third reason for why I would want to live in space is because with my car. I could fly down to earth and get food, gas, really everything I need. Then I would rob a bank and fly back home where they couldn't chase me. That is what I would do for a living.
The fourth reason to live in space would be, on Halloween I would dress up as Jesus and fly down to earth and look at peoples reaction. Then other Halloween I would dress up as an alien or something.
Those are the main four reasons I would live in space.

DO-OVER GENERATION SET TO MEET DEADLINE SHOCK

Do I agree with this article that states that students should be getting penalized for late assignments?
I would say yes. The reason is because if children aren't handing assignments in on time then they are going to think that that's okay. Later on in life they don't hand in or complete an assignment that could have an big impact on their business life, and they might get penalized for it. Also if they get an important job like being a  politician, their paperwork better be on time or else other people and other politicians are going to be peeved. Also like it said in the article, kids need discipline and to get into a good university. You need to prove that you can be a good student by showing them work, but if they notice that all the work is late then they may not accept you.
In the article it says that for the first time since 1999, teachers will be deducting marks for late assignments. That means that before that there wasn't really a penalty for late assignments, and for some children that means that if they aren't deducting marks, then there is no real due date.
Also in the article it says for the first time, students who miss 20 per cent of class time will now lose a credit. I also believe that this necessary because if student miss class then they will be penalized in stead of a call that they can pick up and pretend that they are their parents. This rule will ensure that their parents are aware that they aren't showing up to school.
That is why I agree with this article.
